1. The Gregorian Calendar

The Gregorian calendar is the most widely used civil calendar in the world. It was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in October 1582 as a reform of the Julian calendar.

12 months: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December
365 days in a common year, 366 days in a leap year
Leap years: Every 4 years, except for years divisible by 100 but not by 400

2. Date Formats

There are several common date formats used around the world:

YYYY-MM-DD (e.g., 2022-05-07): ISO 8601 format, widely used in computing and international communication
MM/DD/YYYY (e.g., 05/07/2022): Commonly used in the United States
DD/MM/YYYY (e.g., 07/05/2022): Commonly used in most countries outside of the United States

Example

The publishing date of this guide is: 2022-03-21 (ISO 8601 format)

In the United States, it would be written as: 03/21/2022

In most other countries, it would be written as: 21/03/2022
